Manchester United captain Gary Neville has confirmed to skysports.com that he is ready to return to action.

The England star has not played since March because of ankle and calf problems - but he is now back in full training and ready for a return to first-team action.

"Everything feels okay at the moment and it is all fine," he told skysports.com, with the full-back pencilled in for an outing in Thursday's Senior Cup tie with Stockport County.

"Touch wood I am hoping to be playing as soon as possible."

Quality squad

While Neville has been sidelined, he has seen United's squad develop quicker than many expected and summer additions Nani and Anderson are now starting to show their own qualities.

And Neville admits he is desperate to be back involved. "We are playing well and some of the football is great, that is why - not because for my own personal reasons because I want to play for United - but I want to play for this team," he continued.

"The team has great potential and the football we are playing - we have a great chance of winning trophies and that is what we have to do, win trophies but until a period of three or four years has passed you won't be able to measure us.

"We were in the midst of winning the Carling Cup, the league and we were unlucky not to win the FA Cup and hopefully this year we can continue and progress again."

Long-term

Neville, now 32, also admits he wants to continue playing for a number of years to come.

"I played a large part last season and the season before when I thought we were developing and growing into something and now you look and see the football and I want to be a part of that for a couple, three, four or more years," he added.
