Manchester came together and that for us as a club was wonderful.
Man United secretary Ken Ramsden
Quotes of the week
Manchester United secretary Ken Ramsden has hailed Sunday's one minute silence to commemorate the Munich air disaster as 'fantastic'.
Prior to United's derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford a 60 second silence was held in memory of the 23 people who lost their lives in 1958.
It had been feared that some City fans would fail to observe the mark of respect, but the minute was impeccably held by both sets of supporters.
City won the derby 2-1, but Ramsden has praised the behaviour of United's rivals.
"It was fantastic," Ramsden told Sky Sports News. "There had been such talk before hand about the minute's silence, or lack of it, and how would it be ruined and who would ruin it.
"At the end of the day, Manchester came together and that for us as a club was wonderful.
"When they (City supporters) left the stadium they sang, 'we are impeccable' and I couldn't agree more."
Ramsden admits he was concerned that fans would attempt to sabotage the event, but he believes the successful silence enhances Manchester's reputation as a city.
"Trepidation obviously because the families were here," added Ramsden, when asked about his feelings before the minute's silence.
"It only needed a couple of people out of 76,000 so it could have easily gone wrong, but the fact that it didn't is a great tribute to the people of both clubs and in particular Manchester City.
"My faith wasn't shaken as much as other people because we had worked so hard with City and City had worked so hard themselves.
"But on the day the whole of the city was struck dumb by it all. I don't think there is another city in the land that could have done as well as Manchester did yesterday."
