Ronaldo: United stay

Manchester United chief executive David Gill insists Cristiano Ronaldo will not be leaving Old Trafford this summer.

Rumour has been rife ahead of United's UEFA Champions League final meeting with Chelsea that Real Madrid are set to test the Red Devils' resolve with a record-breaking £100million bid for the wing ace.

However, Gill insists Ronaldo - who netted 31 Premier League goals in the 2007/08 season - is not for sale at any price and he is confident the 23-year-old will not want to leave 'one of the best clubs in the world'.

"Unequivocally yes," Gill told Sky Sports News when asked if Ronaldo would stay at United.

Long-term

"Cristiano will be with us next season. He has got a long-term contract.

"Why would he leave one of the best clubs in Europe? We see no reason for him to leave and I'm sure he doesn't as well."

Gill is also adamant that United are in no doubt over Ronaldo's situation at the club and has revealed manager Sir Alex Ferguson has not even discussed the possibility of the Portuguese's exit

"He doesn't need to reassure us at all," Gill added. "Alex would be the person to speak to him, but I don't think that is necessary at all.

Attitude

"I just see Cristiano and his attitude around the players and the team room now and there is no necessity to speak to him.

"He is on a long-term contract at one of the best clubs in the world. Why would he leave?

"The Premier League is up as the top league and he is playing fantastically at the best club.

"It is an interesting story it will rear its head, but it is not something that will give us sleepless nights."
