Skysports.com understands Tranmere and Hearts are leading the chase to sign former Manchester United midfielder Ritchie Jones.

Jones is looking for a new club after being released by Premier League champions United earlier this week.

The 21-year-old came through the youth ranks at Old Trafford and made five first-team appearances for Sir Alex Ferguson's side.

Jones' availability has alerted a number of clubs with Tranmere and SPL side Hearts thought to be at the front of the queue for the midfielder's signature.

Burnley remain interested in Jones having had him at Turf Moor for a trial in March, while Blackpool and Hartlepool are believed to have sounded out a move for the former England Under 19 international.
