Sir Alex Ferguson expects Dimitar Berbatov to make his Manchester United debut against Liverpool.

Berbatov completed his long-anticipated move to Old Trafford from Tottenham Hotspur on the final day of the transfer window.

The international break has forced Berbatov to wait for his United bow, with the striker having played for Bulgaria in a World Cup qualifier in Montenegro last Saturday.

He has been training with his new club this week and is battling to be involved in Saturday's trip to Anfield, live on Sky Sports 1.

Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez are also hoping to feature against United's title rivals, with Ferguson yet to make a decision on who will start.

However, the Red Devils manager will hand Berbatov his first appearance in a United shirt at some stage of the weekend encounter.

Ferguson told Sky Sports News: "We've got to look to see how all the players come back from international duty, that's the first thing, but he's sure to be involved."
