Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs believes Cristiano Ronaldo's return to goal-scoring form can help the Premier League and European champions kick-start their season.

Ronaldo claimed his first goal in his first start of the season in United's 3-1 Carling Cup win over Middlesbrough on Tuesday night and Giggs feels the fit-again Portugal international is getting back to his best.

"He scores all sorts of goals, which is why he is such a danger. He looks really sharp and it is great to have him back," said Giggs.

"No-one wants to lose Cristiano. He is such a special player, as he proved again."

Tough start

United have made a stuttering start to the season but Giggs warned that they are close to clicking and launching a winning streak.

He added: "We have had a tough start. We didn't play well at the beginning of the season but over the last week or so we have played some really good stuff.

"This team is capable of going on a run and winning 10 games on the trot. Hopefully that run has started now and we can carry it on against Bolton."
