Manchester United expect Wayne Rooney to be fit for England's upcoming 2010 World Cup qualifying double-header.

Rooney suffered an ankle injury in United's 3-0 victory over AaB Aalborg in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night.

The striker was replaced in the second half and there were fears he could face several weeks on the sidelines with ligament damage.

However, United have confirmed that the injury is not serious and that Rooney could be fit to link up with the England squad.

The 22-year-old is doubtful for United's Premier League game with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, but should be available for the national team.

"Wayne has an ankle injury and is considered doubtful for Saturday's game against Blackburn, but he should recover in time for England's forthcoming matches," a United spokesman told the club's official website.

England, who won their opening two qualifiers, face Kazakhstan at Wembley on 11th October before travelling to Belarus four days later.
