Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick admits that despite not being a part of recent England squads he is happy to concentrate on regaining silverware.

Carrick featured for the first time in three months when United travelled to Glasgow in their 1-1 draw with Celtic on Wednesday and insists he is just focusing on United.

He said: "The Celtic match the other night was my first full game for three months. It's great to be back and be involved in big games again.

"I've been concentrating on getting fit and getting back for United. I don't feel like I'm missing out when players like Wayne Rooney and Rio Ferdinand come back after being away with England, because I've got a job to do here."

The midfielder believes that the perfect pick-up after his recent snubs regarding the national team is to concentrate on winning honours with his club.

He added: "Of course I want to get back in the England squad. The boys are playing some great stuff, getting results and the whole country is buzzing about football again.

Reassuring

"Obviously, I want to be part of that but I've heard nothing from Fabio or anyone in the England camp and there have been no reassuring messages about England from Sir Alex Ferguson.

"He's more interested in winning Premier League and Champions League titles, and yes winning those competitions like we did last season softens the blow of not being in the England squad."

Even though the 27-year-old cannot seem to impress current England boss Fabio Capello, Carrick declares that if his club boss is happy with his performance then that is all that matters.

He added: "If I'm playing well for United and the boss is happy, then I'm happy. We'll see what comes after that."
