Rio Ferdinand is relishing the prospect of facing Manchester City in this season's first Manchester derby.

City have aspirations of taking over from United at the top of English football following their takeover by the wealthy Abu Dhabi United Group.

Mark Hughes's men go into the clash, live on Sky Sports 1, in buoyant mood following their success over Arsenal last weekend and are aiming to claim the bragging rights against their neighbours.

City beat United in their two meetings last season and Ferdinand is keen to put things right at Eastlands.

"It's a derby and there is a lot of talk around the city at the moment and a good buzz around," Ferdinand told Sky Sports News.

"There is a lot of optimism of the way things are going at Man City with regards to the new owners and stuff.

"It is going to be a fantastic game, it always is and hopefully we can be a bit more successful in this fixture than we were last season."
