Sir Alex Ferguson has paid a glowing tribute to Cristiano Ronaldo after the Portugal forward completed his move to Real Madrid.

Manchester United's coffers have been boosted by an astonishing £80million from the sale of the World Player of the Year to the Spanish giants.

The unconditional world record fee has been paid to the Old Trafford outfit, with Ferguson now expected to embark on a summer spending spree.

Antonio Valencia has already arrived from Wigan for a fee reported to be in the region of £18million and more new faces are certain to follow.

Ronaldo developed from a precocious teenager into one of the finest players on the planet during his time with United, helping the club to collect silverware at home and abroad.
