Carlos Tevez believes Sir Alex Ferguson is worried about Manchester City following their busy summer of spending.

Tevez spent two years on loan at Old Trafford before securing a permanent switch to Eastlands over the summer.

Ferguson has played down the significance of the Argentine's departure, whilst also warning Man City that it will be difficult to break into the top four this season.

However, Tevez feels Ferguson does fear his local rivals and will not be relishing the Manchester derby on 20th September.

"Ferguson is history for me but I know that he is scared of playing against us," the striker told Globoesporte.

"It's dangerous for Ferguson's objectives and for him to criticise Manchester City."

Tevez has also explained the differences between playing under Ferguson and working with current manager Mark Hughes.

"Mark Hughes is only focused on his work and the team, he doesn't get involved in the negotiations," he said.

"He has been a football player so there is a big difference in the way he treats each player."

Steve Byrne (Manchester United fan) says...

I had a lot of respect for Carlos even when he signed on the dotted line for City but the respect is gone. Instead of concentrating on your new team your still obsessing about UTD. no can say your not a great player but we will say your not playing with the full deck. Forget and UTD, we've forgotten about you.

Why is everyone so bothered? Yes, united will miss tevez, yes united will miss ronaldo. who wouldnt? But before people start to think that united will not win because they lose good players, remember who has left before(Cantona, Beckham, Nistelrooy). There will be a next ronaldo, there will be a next (probably better) tevez, they could play for any team they want. Real madrid, man city, chelsea, who cares? You can cherry pick the best 11 players in the world right now, play the resulting team against Manchester United, and my money will still be on uniteds side. If that 'world Xl' played liverpool, too, id go liverpool, or arsenal, id even go as far as tottenham at the moment.. football is a TEAM game. You cant buy titles. Tevez is a sheep. As if man city can break into the top four this season. Ok, we get it, your the richest club in the world. add the values of both teams' players up, City's will probably amount to more, but the TEAM (as a team) is almost worthless. At least when chelsea bought the prem, Abramovic knew he would have to buy a jose mourinho before it would work. Top ten finish is where my money is. Sorry Carlos.

I think what Tevez had said does not even dignify an answer. I cannot believe he would want to destroy his reputation amongst Man Utd fans whom at the end of last season were begging SAF to sign him, however with all his less than choice words since joining Man City, he deserves a bollocking when he comes back to Old Trafford.

Robbie Holland (Manchester United fan) says...

I loved Tevez as a United player and I was gutted when he left. Now i absolutly hate him he showed no respect to the club or fans and I hope he rots on the City bench, with the way the other City strikers are preforming i can see it happening as well. I have total respect for Sir Alex but City ARE a threat this season quality all round

Mike Glindon (Manchester United fan) says...

Tevez was not given a perm contract after his first year at United because he was expected to get at least 15 goals a season but didnt come anywhere near he just became an impact sub. He then started to moan he wasnt getting enough games and clearly he was getting the minutes in his second season but just was not a prolific goal scorer you can't doubt his work rate but his end product was not there and that is goals. He was offered a take it or leave it contract at United which he was lucky to get in my opinion as all strikers are judged on goal returns he then decided to leave mostly because he wanted week in week out first team footie in a smaller club where possibly he would be the big name signing so he could impress Diego Maradona and more or less double his wage. We shall see if he backs up a lot of the crap he has said with a healthy goal tally in his first season with City and as Fergie puts is their small club mentality. He will get around 8 goals? Meanwhile United move on with Owen the so called injury prone striker who consistently is written off and then produces the goods as he did at the weekend. Surely he can get 12-15 goals as he is just a natural goalscorer and with better creative players to give him the ammunition all the better. Fergie aint stupid he sees the potential in owen he knows what he has done and what he is still capable of he has given Owen the dust down and given him the believe which other clubs havent done. Fergie will have the last and longest laugh.

Andy Harris (Manchester City fan) says...

Carlos is entitled to hit back at old cornbeef face after the way he was treated, Fergie sent him a few texts to ask if he wanted to stay at united, how professional is that. Fergie should be scared Manchester City will be a force to be reckoned with this season. As for everyone saying the team will take time to gel thats wishfull thinking. Top four finish is on the cards. And as for the comment about city player would struggle for a regular place in the united team is laughable. robinho ade swp given ireland barry toure santa cruz would struggle to get a regular place ha ha ha dream on. Lets see whos right at the end of the season

Bobby Mack (Newcastle United fan) says...

Let's be honest, Tevez is talking out of his behind. Not only has he not realised that Fergie was once a player too, but he doesn't seem to have noticed that this new manager that he's having such a love affair with played under Fergie for years, and has credited him a great deal as a teacher! Hughes never shows any disrespect to United and he should teach that to Tevez.. We all know how important respect is in the game.

Mark O'kelly (Manchester United fan) says...

Tevez should take a look at the way Ronaldo handled himself when leaving Man U, he showed the club and the fans so much respect with some of his comments. Tevez on the other hand has lost the respect of the fans that once admired him with each comment he has made since leaving. I think he is a good player and a hard worker and will do well for city but let your feet do the talking as every time you open your mouth it smells of bitterness!

Sally Mott (Manchester City fan) says...

I think Tevez has the right to say what he thinks... It seems that if anyone has the audacity to criticise SAF thay are attacked mercilessly.I have been a city fan for 40 yearS, I remember the great days and I think we will be back. We will scare teams and the reason we are getting so much stick is the fear the title can be bought...well it can... that and an immense array of talent...bring it on united

Kelsey Garrahan (Manchester United fan) says...

All I have to say is that Tevez must really want to get a hostile welcoming when the Derby comes. To honesty say that Fergie isn't 100% focused on his work is a discredit to Man Utd and even to Tevez himself, since he played there. How on earth does Tevez think that Man U has been so good if Fergie isn't committed to his work or the work of the team.

Chris Woosnam (Swansea City fan) says...

Tevez, great player but a silly boy. Why don't you let your football do the talking? Ferguson scared? Hmm...I think he'd rather play City than Real Madrid, Barcelona or even Chelsea or Liverpool. I think Tottenham have a more realistic chance of hitting the top 4 and I dont even think they will. City have signed some great players but it will take them time to gel and may be too late. I think Sparky should have a quiet word....

David Elder (Aston Villa fan) says...

Not entirely sure Sir Alex will be frightened at the thought of playing Manchester City, sounds like Teves is a bit upset he wasnt the heart of United and that much of an importance. These Manchester City players are really getting ahead of themselves and personally i think the players they have signed are quality no doubt but they would definitely struggle to play week in week out in the united team. Sir Alex deserves alot more respect then he is recieving Manchester City have a long way to go (were talkings years of winning honours) before they can compare themselves to such a fantastic club.

Adam Higson (Manchester City fan) says...

I think that Tevez is spot on ferguson is obviously scared of city, he's scared that his precious salford united will be out of the spotlight in the near future. As for everyone having a go at Tevez saying he is jealous of not playing in europe anymore i remeber that many champions league teams were seriously trying to gain funds to sign him (untied even made a last-gasp effort). Also why are the united fans being so hypercritical about Tevez at the end of last season they were singing his name as much as they could trying to get Ferguson to sign him.

Joe James (Manchester United fan) says...

I remember when Tevez and mascherano signed for West Ham and listening to a few people 'in the know' talking about both players. The general opinion was that mascherano would settle very easily in the UK as he is very intelligent. However Tevez they were more worried about because to put it nicely he is a bit thick. Unfortunately for Tevez he keeps proving those people right with the stupid comments that pour out of his mouth. What he really needs is a PR man at his side all the time to prevent this. I loved Tevez, like most United fans his work rate completely won me over, however his return in goals didnt justify 25million and his actions towards the end of last season really got on my nerves. He stands just as much chance of bench time at Citeh, especially when they buy more players, which they will until they win something big. The last time citeh won anything it was in 2001/02 when they won the then second division. Since that season United have won 4 Premier Leagues, 1 FA Cup, 2 League Cups, 3 Charity Shields, 1 UEFA Champions League, and 1 Fifa Cluc World Cup... by my counting thats twelve pieces of silverware... if you want to go back to the last time they won a serious trophy you have to go back all the way to 1976 and I cannot even be bothered to list the trophys United have won since then. So forgetting the 'history' of citeh Tevez went for money and first team football, one of which he'll get lots of, the other not so much. One good thing about Tevez leaving, its got Berbatov showing a marked improvement in his attitude. Anyone notice him running back and winning the ball in our half and turning it into a goal move?

Marc Murley (Watford fan) says...

Where are all the Manchester City fans now eh? Tevez, learn to think before you speak!!

Mark Hart (Leeds United fan) says...

Tevez has clearly joined a club that are going places, where as Manchester United will pass them in the other direction. One can hardly blame Tevez for being sour towards SAF because of the way he described him as not being worth the money they were gonna pay for him. As for he moved for the money, i did think that in the beginning, however, after seeing the difference in the calibre of the players the 2 clubs are signing i am sure man city will have a better squad than man u in the near future. Man U have lost Ronaldo and tevez, and quite frankly they have not replaced them and there squad now is very average, rooney will not cope with the pressure. Tevez can also still become a great at a decent club, not at the scum.

Gary B (Liverpool fan) says...

The point he's making is that Alex Ferguson did not treat him well. He barely spoke to him during his time at Man Utd and made him feel unwanted. He didn't leave for money. He left for 1st team football (He's been injured so far which is why he hasn't been played much yet) and he also wanted a manager who appreciated him. Who cares if he didn't realise Ferguson was a footballer? He wasn't a particularly good one. He's merely trying to say that Hughes understands how he wants to be treated better than Ferguson did. Scared may not also be the right word, but wary may be better. Man City won't be challenging for the title this year, but I expect them & Tottenham to take a few points off the big teams this season.

Andrew Hart (Manchester City fan) says...

With all that's been going on at and around City this year, the expectation of falling flat on our faces from most of the football world, the comments of Carlos are just plain silly. Now being the richest club in the world, being portrayed (quite unfairly, I think) as transfer market bullies, and our circus like history over the last few decades, do we really need to be trying to play mind games and get up the nose of the most successful manager with the best team in the country?!?! Pointless and silly. Don't worry about your past Carlos, concentrate on our present and future. Sparky needs to have a couple of classroom based training sessions with his players about our players only commenting on us and what we do, and again to be fair, just like United players have usually done for a while.

Carloss Tevez (Manchester United fan) says...

This guy has lost the plot. But with all the time he will be spending on the bench the season I guess he has plenty of energy and time to speak to the press. Ferguson is the greatest manager this league has seen and most likely will ever see. He is a great judge of talent and in 90% of cases makes the right signings. Where did Man City finish last year? I can't remember and don't care. Where will they finish this year? My tip/guess/bet will struggle for European place frankly. Tevez shut your mouth until you actually do something for Man City and prove Fergie wrong (which you won't).

Arvind Nundloll (Manchester United fan) says...

Had a lot of respect for this player... not anymore. United gave him the opportunity to shine, n thats how he pays back the favor... by first signing to city and now criticizing SAF, who gave him his chance. C'mon Carlos... grow up and admit its was about the money, n that u r so childish that u can't accept a normal squad rotation routine, which was playing in 5 competitions. I hope we reserve him a nice welcome when he returns at Old Trafford in his blue shirt.
