Rochdale have signed Manchester United goalkeeper Tom Heaton on loan until the end of December.

The 23-year-old shot stopper, who is an England Under 21 international, joined on Friday and is set to make his debut when Chesterfield visit Spotland on Saturday.

Heaton has had loan spells at Championship clubs Cardiff and QPR, only leaving Loftus Road on Thursday, and will stay with Keith Hill's men for the remainder of 2009.

Heaton told the club's official website: "I am looking to improve and develop and hopefully help get some wins for the team."
