Danny Simpson has come to terms with the fact that his future lies away from Manchester United as he looks to impress Newcastle.

The defender joined the Magpies on loan in the summer and has missed just five Championship games so far this season.

The 22-year-old has played right across the back-four this term to highlight his versatility and, after previous loans with Sunderland, Ipswich and Blackburn over the last two-and-a-half years, understands it is time to leave Old Trafford.

Simpson is enjoying life in the North East and although nothing has been sorted out he would want nothing more than to make his loan move, which expires in January, permanent.

"Obviously, I'm enjoying my football here, and if I do well enough to get an offer, then I'll consider it, as I'm enjoying my football at the moment," he told the Sunderland Echo.

Wanted

"I just want to get as many games under my belt as I can until January. I've got no clue [what will happen in the transfer window] - I'm just taking it game by game.

"It's nice to be wanted and it would be nice at the end of the loan spell for Chris [Hughton, manager] and all the staff to say they want me to stay.

"Hopefully, my performances will warrant that. You want to play on Saturday afternoon and I'm no different.

"I've been in and around different clubs. I had a spell where I didn't play and was on the bench [at Blackburn] and I've had times when I was playing and I know what I'd prefer.

"You want to train Monday to Friday and play on a Saturday. That's just me and the way I am."
