Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believed that Wayne Rooney's in-born desire was fully evident during Sunday's 3-1 win at Hull City.

The England international played a part in all four goals at the KC Stadium as he scored the opener before helping the Tigers in the build-up to Craig Fagan's penalty-spot equaliser with a terribly short back-pass.

Rooney's mistake clearly motivated the 24-year-old to make amends and he produced assists for Andy Dawson's own goal and Dimitar Berbatov's late tap-in.

Ferguson did not blame the former Everton man for his error and was full of praise for his No.10 after United moved to within two points of Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Natural winner

The Scot told Sky Sports 1: "He's been a threat all day to them, the penetration behind their back line was very good.

"He made a mistake in giving the ball away for the goal, that was his one bad moment in the game, but I thought he was exceptionally good today.

"He's got that (desire), it's in-born in him, he'll never lose that.

"He's a natural winner, he's always had that great attitude and determination to do well and he would be even more sick than anyone when he made a mistake.

"He rectified it and everything's fine."

Wayne is an exceptional player,simply put!i must say i like his game very much eventhough am a chelsea fan,he seems to have an inner fire to always win.The whole united team might play bad but wayne wont,sir alex has a great player
