Manchester United have struck an agreement which will see Portuguese striker Bebe move to Old Trafford.

The 20-year-old will join United subject to passing a medical later in the week.

The Red Devils have already agreed a deal with Bebe's current employers Vitoria Guimaraes.

Personal terms have also been ironed out, paving the way for the move to be completed.

The youngster will move to England for an undisclosed fee, bolstering United's attacking unit in the process.

Potential

Reports suggest the fee involved could be somewhere in the region of £7.4million.

Sir Alex Ferguson has swooped for the burly frontman just five weeks after he signed for Guimaraes, agreeing to match his buy-out clause.

Bebe had been recommended to the United boss by the club's former assistant manager Carlos Queiroz, who is now in charge of the Portugal national side.

He has shown his potential during pre-season with a number of well-taken goals and will bring power and pace to the Red Devils' frontline.

His arrival does come as something of a surprise, though, as United already have eight senior strikers on their books and Ferguson has often stated that he was not looking to add to his squad.

Jon Harrisberg (Boreham Wood fan) says...

Ozil will come towards the end of the transfer period when are desperate for the sale. Why pay more now when united could get him at the price the6 want to pay in 2 weeks. Worst comes to worst he will sign for cheaper fee in Jan or free next.summer. united aren''t desperate for him but he would be a nice addition hence the holding out. Bebe is a very odd transfer but I guess he must have potential and is probably not gonna end up a strikers but N attacking midfield or wide player given the talent up front.

Cameron Doddington (Manchester United fan) says...

I think that Bebe will fit into the united squad and from what ive heard he is a great young prospect. I think that 7m could be a bit of a gamble but fergie has got it right. Yes i would love ozil but people need to realise that he is not proven at club level he has only shone at the world cup before that nobody had heard of him. once again fergie has done right.

Alberto Jorge-severn (Manchester United fan) says...

Bebe is more of a attacking right midfielder he has a great delivery of the ball into the box only young too. I think it''s a good buy as long as we get ozil or some one of a similar quality this season to sort the midfield problems.

Bob Bobbers (Manchester United fan) says...

Can I just point out that on Football Manager he is a Defensive Midfielder, and a secondary Centre-back. Hopefully real life is more correct though 8-)

Royston Fredericks (Manchester United fan) says...

Why go with the unknown(bebe) when you can sign someone(ozil) that has proven himself to perform on the world greatest stage? Seems fergie hates the germans and loves the portuguese..... Check bebe out on Youtube! Nothing to write home about really!... Hopefully Sir Alex will do the right thing and sign Ozil as well!.... PLEASE!

Aj Parker (Manchester United fan) says...

Bebe can play as an attacking midfielder, the wing or as a forward and is a quick powèrful creative strèetwise player. those who are obsessed with ozil, we dont need this kid as he is over-rated and what ever happened to you Sneijder obsession?. Bebe can play in the midfield role and hopeful lives to the protential that everyone believes he haves. another transfer coup by the master Sir Alex Ferguson. Chicharito (£6m), Smalling (£10m), Bebe (£7.4m), good business. WE WANT OUT TITLE BACK.

United Forever (Manchester United fan) says...

Could be a good buy but also may not be, he need''s to get a chance before we judge him. The thing I like about him is that as a child he lived in an orphanage aswell as the streets of Portugal, but now look where he is.

Martyn Parry (Manchester United fan) says...

Rooney, Berbatov, Owen, Hernandez, and now another striker? We play with one up top for the big games, so we''ve basicly got four strickers sitting on the bench for half season wasting wages? For a clubs that''s in debt it makes no sense at all. Ozil a proven performer at the top level in the world cup, young and a goalscorer from midfield and slots into the 4-5-1 system perfectly. Surely the £8 mill would''ve been better invested in him?

Dan Cahill (Manchester United fan) says...

can we put things in perspective here?! we missed on on the title by 1 point last year and i''m reading stuff criticising the midfield etc, when it was probably rooney being injured, a striker, and the lack of back up that cost us the title. He''s having to invest 1) because dimi hasn''t exactly shone 2) owen has just come back from injury 3) with the new squad rules you can register as many under 21s as you like, making him an invaluable addition and 4) because he has only just been identified by the scouting team and in order to fend off interest from other clubs they have acted now. he''s very highly rated; if some of you are true united fans you would not be criticising ferguson; i agree ozil would be nice (it might still happen) but he knows what he needs better than we do. Lets not forget he wants to give gibson, cleverly etc a chance to shine this term.

Amilcar Neves (Tottenham Hotspur fan) says...

He is a pure winger, nice feet, an incredible vision for crosses and a fine long pass. he can play on the right side and left side, a team player that prefers the pass than the shot, but if he´s on a good position he can shoot very well. Very ambitious, you guys are going to love him. Last year he was playing amateur level in portugal, transfered to Vitória de Guimarães this season. Scored 5 goals this pre-season. Prediction: He is going to stay with United this Season, and Sir Alex Ferguson is going to make him a hell of a player. Good luck son!

Mark South (Manchester United fan) says...

Well, Not sure if we need another striker, however, Alex knows best. We will just have to wait and see what comes of this. I think he will probably be sent out on loann. I think we have enough firepower upfront in Rooney, Berba, Owen (if he stays injure free) and Hernandez, along with Macheda. Can''t find much about "Bebe" , just a small clip on youtube. He seems pretty good.

Bebe is a young and talented striker but i don''t think united need a striker, fergie why not use the money and land ozil to bolster the midfield.frm, David onimisi (united fan)

Paul Rodriguez (Manchester United fan) says...

No one had really heard of Ronaldo either at the point he joined United, so those worrying not panic just yet. Fergie having stated he was not in the market for player would not have bought him if he did feel the kid was either talented enough for united or a potential profit was to be made out of a future sale.

Mohammad Mamode (Manchester United fan) says...

I want to congratulate SAF for bringing this guy on board, but I believe we still need to ponder about ageing Van Der Sar and Scholesy... We should at least get players to take over in due time.

Definitely another kleberson or bellion. FLOP ALERT!! and why do we need another striker!!

At 6"2 at 20 years old he could be a young Drogba. Would be nice to get Ozil but in Fergie we trust!

Duane Roystone (Manchester United fan) says...

I''ve not heard of him either but other websites have said that apparently we''ve snapped him up before Real did as they''d had talks with him, so lets give him a fair chance before we judge! Wouldn''t surprise me if we sent him out on loan though. I''d like to see us sign Ozil now to replace Scholesy when the time comes! By the way, in fairness to Manucho, he didn''t get a fair chance at United which often happens I''m sad to say.

Lanre Makele (Manchester United fan) says...

Ozil is available, he would be a great addition (we are short of quality central midfielders) , not too expensive and yet we have another striker
