Manchester United stalwart Ryan Giggs believes returning players at Old Trafford will strengthen the squad.

Rio Ferdinand featured for the Red Devils reserves on Wednesday night against Oldham, the first time the defender had been in action since suffering a knee ligament injury in World Cup training, forcing him to pull out of the England squad.

Brazilian midfielder Anderson played 90 minutes in the same Latics clash, while experienced full-back Gary Neville is also close to a return.

Giggs, 36, says the returning players will provide a welcome headache for manager Sir Alex Ferguson, and is confident in the quality available.

"The squad is looking really strong," he told the cub's official website.

"We've got Rio to come back in, Nev hasn't played yet, and Anderson is back too. So it's looking really good.

"It's a headache for the boss, but one he would rather have than to be struggling for players.

"We'll need everyone because it's a long season. The manager realises that."

United are next in action when they travel to Everton on Saturday 11th September, having picked up seven Premier League points after three games so far.
