Sir Alex Ferguson on Owen Hargreaves
Quotes of the week
Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insists Owen Hargreaves is not in contention to face West Brom this weekend, despite reports suggesting otherwise.
Midfielder Hargreaves, who has been hindered by tendinitis in his knees for much of the last two years, has not featured for United so far this season.
World renowned knee surgeon Dr Richard Steadman, who has been closely involved in aiding Hargreaves' fitness and rehabilitation, reported earlier this week the 29-year-old was poised to return against the Baggies at Old Trafford on Saturday.
However, Hargreaves is suffering from a minor calf complaint, and a clearly unimpressed Ferguson has rubbished Steadman's claims.
"Owen is not ready," Ferguson told Key103. "He is injured.
"He has missed training for the last few days.
"We are having difficulty with the doctor in Colorado coming out with statements that are not accurate.
"It is not fair to the player for him to say Owen is going to be playing tomorrow.
"It is ridiculous. I pick the team and I have been doing it for quite a while.
