Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has become the latest player to pledge his future to the club by signing a new contract until 2014.
Club stalwart Ryan Giggs and full-back Patrice Evra have recently signed extensions at Old Trafford and Carrick has now followed suit.
The England international has scored 17 goals in 218 appearances for United since his 2006 transfer from Tottenham Hotspur and is a three-time Premier League winner.
Though he has occasionally been linked with moves away from the leaders, he is delighted to be staying with the Red Devils.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at this great club," Carrick told the club's official website.
"There is fantastic team spirit within the squad and I'm pleased to have committed my future to United.
"We are in a very good position at the moment and I am confident this team will be successful for many years to come."
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson added: "I am delighted Michael has signed a new contract.
"He has been outstanding since joining us from Tottenham Hotspur in 2006, he is a true professional and it's great he has committed his future to the club."
In Fergie we trust, but the man really does seem to be losing his marbles now. Can only think that it is a fnancial issue, but then what is our wage bill with all these average players? (Rooney included, unfortunately we can't drop him because our midfield is so weak we need a striker who falls back all he time, and that is due to likes of Carrick!!!!). Fergie has to accept that Hargreaves is not coming back and plan for the future. We really seem to be going backwards.

A total waste of space. Cannot run or play the ball forward.

Don't worry lads, there must be a new rule coming out from FIFA / UEFA soon that bans midfield players from scoring. We are well on the way to having a midfield that be won't threaten the new rule!

What are yo playing at Fergie can't we afford a replacement?!!
Posted 22:00 3rd March 2011
One of the worst decisions ever by fergie consistent under performing players like carrick is not what utd fans want
Posted 21:20 3rd March 2011
AHHHHHHHHHHH! Why ferguson why?! Are you trying to ensure that when you eventually retire the man that replaces you has such a poor team he would never be able to emulate your success?
Posted 21:09 3rd March 2011
Shocking. We need a playmaker, a new Scholsey (not that there will ever be another Scholsey), not a timid Vinnie Sideways who faces his own goal all game. What are we doing? I hope the only reason he has a new contract is because it's for 2 bob a week, why else would we keep him, he has been awful for the last 2 years.

Seriously, this has to be an early April's fool joke!

fantastic! another 3 years of a less than average player in the centre of our midfield, I was thinking more of a sale and not a new contract! he's been diabolical this season, forgets what way were shooting simply because he only knows how to pass to vidic or van der sar, he even seems to mess up passing backwards sometimes too! It's got to a point i wish hargreaves misfortune with injuries was suffered by carrick instead, awful player and does not deserve to be in the team and should be sold. World class centre mid is needed next season, Hamsik/Busquets/Sneijder would be ideal, but then again dont like spending more than 10 mill on a player now do we.
