Blues set sights on Miguel

The agent of Portuguese international Miguel has confirmed that Chelsea hold an interest in the buccaneering full-back.

The right-back currently plies his trade at Valencia and has proved a real hit since a big-money move from Benfica in the summer of 2005.

An attacking full-back with pace to burn, the 26-year-old also enjoyed an impressive World Cup campaign in Germany, more than playing his part as Portugal reached the semi-finals.

His quality is well-known to Blues boss Jose Mourinho who has first-hand experience of the ex-Benfica star from his time coaching in Portugal.

Mourinho appears keen to add another specialist right-back to his squad with Paulo Ferreira seemingly out of favour and Geremi currently filling in.

Reports in Portugal suggest the Premiership champions are readying a bid for Miguel in the January transfer window, but the player's agent Paulo Barbosa insists his charge currently has no desire to leave the Mestalla.

"We are aware of the interest of Chelsea, but Miguel wants them to speak to Valencia as he is happy at the club and does not want to leave - unless it is in the interests of Valencia," Barbosa told O Jogo.

"He had a great season at Valencia and shone at the 2006 World Cup so it is normal that the best clubs in Europe are interested in him.

"He is satisfied at Valencia and wants to speak to the club about a possible new contract."
