Terry: Waiting for the nod
John Terry is not taking his place in the England side for granted as he works his way back to full fitness.
The Chelsea captain has returned to training after a foot injury, which forced him to miss Fabio Capello's first game as coach against Switzerland.
He is likely to return to first-team action in the coming weeks and is expected to be included in Capello's next squad for the friendly with France at the end of March.
But, with Capello having shown he will not pick his team on reputation, Terry is aware that he will need to be in form when the next squad is announced.
"I'm sort of waiting for the nod and the phone call and the get-together," Terry told Sky Sports 1.
"I need to get myself back fit before anything, and get myself back fit and playing for Chelsea.
"We've seen with the players he's brought in, he's picked them on performances.
"So, if I can do that for Chelsea, get myself back in the squad and show him what I'm all about, I will let him make that decision from there. I'm just very keen to get back."
Terry, who was skipper during Steve McClaren's reign as coach, admits he has only spoken to Capello briefly since the Italian's appointment.
"I did see him at the Everton game when we played away in the cup," added Terry. "We had a brief hello, how's my foot and that's it.
"His English was very good, and he is obviously improving there."
Steven Gerrard captained England in last week's 2-1 win over Switzerland, but Capello will not name a permanent skipper until the 2010 World Cup qualifiers start in September.
