Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti was happy to see his side progress to the knockout stages of the Champions League after a dramatic draw with Atletico Madrid.

Didier Drogba returned from a three-match European suspension to score two goals, but they were denied a win at the Vicente Calderon thanks to Sergio Aguero's last-gasp free-kick.

Aguero came off the bench to give Atletico the lead before Drogba scored twice in six minutes to turn the game in Chelsea's favour.

But Aguero had the final word with a late leveller to end Chelsea's 100 per cent record in Group D.

Ancelotti was happy with the result and he praised Drogba for his latest impressive showing.

"I'm happy because we are in the next phase of the Champions League and this is important," Ancelotti told Sky Sports 2.

"It was a difficult match and I think the result is good because Atletico played well.

"They put a lot of pressure on us in the first half but I think we did well - not the best but it was good."

Asked about the importance of Drogba, Ancelotti added: "Didier is an important player for us. We have a lot of important players but he is doing very well and we are happy."

Ancelotti also denied suggestions that Sunday's showdown with Manchester United had distracted his players against Atletico.

"The players thought about this (tonight's) game," noted Ancelotti.

"Now we have time to think about Manchester United and we have to prepare well, with calmness, to do our best."
