Manchester United defender Jonny Evans says Fernando Torres is harder to defend against than Didier Drogba.

Evans will be part of the United defence that is handed the task of containing Drogba when the Red Devils travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea on Sunday.

The centre-half, who will once again deputise for the injured Rio Ferdinand, has praised Drogba in the build up to the game, but thinks Liverpool's Torres is out on his own.

"I have played against Drogba a few times and I have always enjoyed the challenge," Evans told the Daily Star.

"He has a bit of everything, so you have to say he's up there as the hardest to mark.

"He's got strength, pace, power, he's good in the air and he's got a great strike on him.

"But sometimes, Torres is complete class. He would have done to most defenders in the world what he did to Rio at Anfield recently."

Criticism

Evans also believes the criticism Ferdinand has received for his recent performances is extremely harsh, and revealed that the England international is a great help to more inexperienced players.

"I think people have been harsh on Rio," he added. "He's going to be vital for England at the World Cup - Rio and John Terry are England's best two centre-backs.

"Rio is a great leader, a really nice person and someone who encourages all the young players at the club."

The 21-year-old Northern Ireland international has had to step into the defensive breach vacated by Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic in recent games, despite carrying a knock himself.

He said: "You want to be around when Rio and Nemanja get injured, so you are ready to step in."

Conor Fitzpatrick (Liverpool fan) says...

Torres is miles better! Torres is only 25, captained Athletico Madrid at 19 and has been consistantly good since he became pro! Drogbas 31 and has not been good year in and year out! That means he is not one of the best in the world! Class is permanent, form is temporary!!
