Frank Lampard believes John Terry did the right thing on Sunday by reacting to abuse from Stoke fans with a sterling display.

The England international did not put a foot wrong in their FA Cup quarter-final success over the Potters at Stamford Bridge.

Terry capped a fine display with a second half goal and he celebrated by showing off his captain's armband to the home faithful.

The 29-year-old was recently stripped of the England captaincy over his alleged affair with a former girlfriend of ex-team-mate Wayne Bridge.

Lampard accepts coming under fire from opposing fans is part and parcel of the game, although he felt Stoke fans overstepped the mark.

Positive

"Sometimes the abuse oversteps the mark," said Lampard.

"Strong players react in positive ways and that's what John did.

"These things happen but we'll just move on. That's a good answer to it really."

Chelsea have been paired with Aston Villa in the semi-finals and Lampard is expecting a tough test from Martin O'Neill's men.

Villa lost out on Carling Cup glory to Manchester United recently and Lampard is wary of their determination to win silverware this season.

"Villa are a good team, we all know that now. They have a few players in the England squad and have great spirit and quality," he continued.

"After the disappointment of losing the League Cup final, they will want to go back to Wembley and win something, so it will be tough for us."
