Kalou: Shrugged off shocking miss

I was not worried at all when I hit the crossbar. It was a cup final and in the final you can never predict the score.

Salomon Kalou has played down his FA Cup final blunder after Chelsea secured the domestic double with victory over Portsmouth.

Chelsea edged a 1-0 win at Wembley on Saturday to follow up their Premier League success, despite Kalou making one of the biggest errors in FA Cup final history.

The forward was only six yards out and looked certain to score when he somehow managed to smash Ashley Cole's cross against the crossbar, marking the most disastrous miss Wembley had witnessed since Brighton's Gordon Smith failed to score from six yards in the 1983 decider against Manchester United.

Fortunately for Kalou, his Ivory Coast colleague Didier Drogba clinched the winner with a free-kick from 25 yards in the 58th minute.

"I was not worried at all when I hit the crossbar," said Kalou. "It was a cup final and in the final you can never predict the score.

"It was not like against Wigan where we scored eight goals, it was a different game with different tactics.

"As a team we worked hard and Didier Drogba did it at the end for us with a master free-kick, like he always does.

Deserved

"It is a great moment for the football club and everyone at the club deserves to have the double.

"It was crazy in the dressing room, everyone was singing and dancing and it is good to make history for the club.

"It is something that we will keep forever in our minds and hopefully there is more to come."
