Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career.
Chelsea FC statement.
Quotes of the week
Chelsea have confirmed they have agreed a fee with Real Madrid for defender Ricardo Carvalho.
The move will see Carvalho reunited with former Blues boss Jose Mourinho after working with the defender at Stamford Bridge and Porto.
The 32-year-old's future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of speculation for some time with Carvalho revealing earlier this summer he would jump at the chance of moving to El Santiago Bernabeu.
The Portugal international will now travel to Spain to hold talks and undergo a medical at the Spanish giants before signing a two-year deal.
"Chelsea Football Club can confirm it has agreed terms with Real Madrid for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho," a Chelsea statement read.
"The transfer is subject to a medical and the player agreeing personal terms.
"Chelsea would like to thank Riccy for his six years of service, and we wish him well in his future career."
A Madrid statement read: "Real Madrid CF and FC Chelsea have reached an agreement for the transfer of Ricardo Carvalho.
"The player will be linked to Real Madrid CF the next two seasons."
The Portuguese centre-back was brought to Chelsea alongside Mourinho from Porto in 2004 after he took over at Stamford Bridge and went on to become a mainstay alongside John Terry in defence helping the Blues will three Premier League titles during his time at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea have now decided to let Carvalho move on and it will fuel speculation that Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti has lined up a replacement for Carvalho with Benfica's David Luiz strongly linked with a move to West London.Chelsea Specials. Click here to bet.

Ricardo Carvalho is the best defender of Chelsea by far. What Terry?! Like Torres said, the best defender of Chelsea is Ricardo Carvalho by far. How can you underrated so much a world class player like Ricardo Carvalho?! Manchester United is gonna win the league this year.

Ricardo Carvalho is a great player but its time for chelsea to sit back and start to brin the young players through ... chelseas average age is like 30 now ....and terry, lampard, drogba, malouda dont have many more years left now soooo what i would like to see is over the next 2 years is a new squad bring built mainly through chelseas youth if possible :) ....

i think this is good news for madrid fan''s, despite his age carvalho is a top defender and will certainly streghten real''s defence, the only problem is that: pepe and raul albiol are in the middle of madrids defence so theres not much space for ricardo.

What a legend. Riccy and Terry have been the best defence in the Prem for the past six years bar none and this has set the foundations for three league titles.. nothing for 50 years, then 3 in 6 seasons speaks for itself. It is the right time for both parties to go their separate ways; Riccy will thrive in the slower pace in his twilight years, undoubtably wining a few more trophies along the way, and time for a new chapter of the blues defence to begin - but who will it be. I genuinely hope some of the Chelsea youngsters read this and follow in Terry''s footsteps. Thanks Riccy, the Chelsea faithful will never forget your contribution.. all the best fella.

Typical Mourinho - Carvalho is 32, meaning Mourinho is planning to do again what he does best: bring in veterans, win the league one or two times and then move on. I don''t think he will build a Madrid team for the future, and I don''t think he''ll be there longer than a season or two.

Thanks Ricardo but now whats done is done chelsea have let quite a few quality players go but now is the time to bring a few new faces in like David Luiz,Ozil,Ramires and Aguero they would be perfect replacements for what we have let go. carvalho-Luiz J.Cole-Ozil Ballack-Ramires Deco and Belletti-Aguero come on ROMAN your scaring us after pre season and that dreadful charity shield its got to happen or regret it uve got the power come on please sort it out. Come on you blues.

He was a quality player and I would pick him over Terry every time.
Posted 23:56 10th August 2010
I think this is a good move by real madrid to get another quality defender as Carvalho. I think that would make them stronger at the back and take them back to the top where they belong.

thanks carvalho great player for us ...as for the liverpool fans bangin on about JOHN TERRY john is our rock your just said u have nothing like him in you back line ....alex and john will hold the back line and bring the young players though and knowing chelsea they will have a player lined up to replace ricky ....

Chelsea have lost a great player, they are only gettin weaker and it gives united a great chance to bringb the title back to old traford
Posted 23:34 10th August 2010
I see players of great quality leaving & being given away but no replacements & we looked like a bunch of amateurs on Sunday especially in defense against Man Utd so what is going on ? I am not having good feelings right now about our season unless we get some new players in to replace Carvalho, Ballack, Deco, Sinclair & Joe Cole we are even giving Mancienne away for loan again !!!! Is it just me that sees great going out & nothing coming in ?
Posted 23:25 10th August 2010
I''m really happy for Ricardo, he is a class player and gave a lot to chelsea. I am worried about my Benfica now as David Luiz could be on his way out :(
Posted 23:22 10th August 2010
This man is a quality defender. Hes been a rock in our defence ever since Mourinho signed him. Never afraid to get stuck in. He''ll be hard to replace. And with Terry still looking terribly out of form and Alex struggling with injuries, its going to be a tough season for us...

Overall I think this has been a good summer for Chelsea and getting rid of Carvalho especially for £6mill is more good news the club is moving in the right direction. There is no way any club can continue to spend millions every season and we need to bring a lot more youngster through. Ballack, deco, belletti and Carvalho were all past their best earning too much and not offering a lot to the team last year. Hopefully these changes will give Mancienne, Bruma, Van Aanholt, Kakuta, Borini and Sturridge a good go this year. Chelsea for the title again

carvalho ,,,,,,shame he made john terry look good ,allways cleaning up after him. Feel sick we will miss him.
