Chelsea duo Frank Lampard and Didier Drogba could be rested for Saturday's game against Wigan Athletic after revealing injury concerns.

Both players starred as the Blues began the defence of their Premier League title with a 6-0 trouncing of promoted West Brom last weekend.

Drogba stole the show with a hat-trick, while Lampard grabbed the champions' fourth goal in the Stamford Bridge rout but both players have been nursing injuries heading into the start of the campaign.

The latter, who managed to shrug off an ankle complaint picked up on international duty with England, is hoping to be fit for the DW Stadium clash - the scene where Wigan caused a major upset last season.

"It is good there are no midweek games, so I have got a long week now," the 32-year-old, who played in the Blues team which lost 3-1 to the Latics last term, told Chelsea TV.

"I can really rest it and get the swelling down and look to keep working hard."

Pain

Drogba showed few ill-effects from his latest injuries with his tally against the Baggies but the fellow 32-year-old confessed he is still in discomfort.

The prolific marksman had summer surgery on a niggling hernia problem, while he continues to play through the pain barrier with a metal plate in the arm he broke when on duty for the Ivory Coast just before the World Cup.

He said: "The arm is the one which is more tricky. I still feel pain.

"It is improving, but I still feel pain when I need to push a little bit. I still need to pay attention to it."
