Torres: Injury scare

Fernando Torres has handed Rafa Benitez an injury scare after picking up a knee knock on international duty.

The Liverpool striker sustained the injury while preparing for Spain's Euro 2008 qualifier with Iceland this weekend.

Torres, who has scored three goals so far this season, admits he is in pain with the knee injury.

Pain

"I thought nothing of it at first but later it started aching. And when I took a shot I felt a sharp pain," Torres is quoted as saying in The Sun.

"I've got a lot of pain but we'll see how it goes over the next few days."

Spain's doctor Genaro Borras played down the severity of the injury, saying Torres should be fit to face Iceland.

Bruising
"Torres has bruising on the sciatic nerve in his right knee," confirmed Borras.

"We'll go easy with him but it shouldn't be anything to worry about."

Benitez will be hoping Torres returns unscathed as he is already sweating on the fitness of Steven Gerrard, who could have a pain-killing injection in order to play for England on Saturday.
