Torres: Aiming high
Fernando Torres is hoping that he can be crowned the Premier League top scorer this season, helping Liverpool lift the title in the process.
The 23-year-old is confident he can add to his five league goals this season and has set his sights on the golden boot.
Liverpool have not taken the title for 17 years and Torres is adamant he can fire his side to success.
"What happens almost always with the team that ends up champions is that they also have the top scorer," he told The Sun.
"It would be really beautiful but what would be even better is a great season for Liverpool.
"My top challenge is to start games and to score the biggest number of goals possible to help the team."
The Spanish international also revealed that upon joining The Reds earlier this year, he was made fully aware of the history of the Merseyside club.
He added: "The first thing the club did for me when I arrived in Liverpool was to present me with a DVD and two books about the history of Liverpool FC.
"I know all about Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley - two legendary managers with a lot of charisma and much loved by our fans.
"And out of the strikers I'm stuck on Dalglish, Fowler and Rush."
Torres insists that it will require a team effort to secure the Premier League title but he aspires to reach the individual achievements of Ian Rush.
"I've signed for six seasons and I hope that good results allow me to have a big impact on Anfield," he added.
"Rush is a great and I'm still a long way off his amazing achievements and number of goals.
"At the moment my favourite goal is the one I scored against Chelsea. It was my first game at Anfield in front of my new fans and against a great rival.
"I'm happy with how things are going but the most important thing is collective success."
