Liverpool assistant manager Sammy Lee paid tribute to Robbie Keane after the striker's superb goal against Arsenal.

Keane hit only his third Premier League goal for the Reds following his £20million summer move from Tottenham to secure a 1-1 draw at the home of the Gunners.

Robin van Persie had given the home side the lead, with Emmanuel Adebayor later dismissed for two bookable offences, but Liverpool were unable to capitalise on their numerical advantage.

There has been speculation that Keane could be set for a swift Anfield exit and was struggling for confidence, but Lee was more than happy with his contribution in North London.

Fantastic

He told Sky Sports: "Robbie has been fantastic. He's a good lad and he keeps on plugging away.

"He'll trouble players and teams for any given game so there's no problems with Robbie's confidence and he'll keep on working to try to improve."

Lee was in charge at Emirates Stadium after Rafa Benitez was forced to miss the match after surgery to remove kidney stones this week.

The Spaniard was in touch with the coaching staff throughout the match and Lee wished him a speedy recovery.

"With technology being what it is today he was in total command of the game and that's all credit to him. It speaks volumes about his professionalism," he added.

"He was pleased with the boys and the result. Hopefully he'll be back as soon as possible because he has a great presence at the club and that is missed when he's not here."
