Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva has promised to keep his head up after experiencing some 'bad times' this season.

The Brazilian has been criticised at times this season but Rafa Benitez has shown faith in him and selected him from the start against Arsenal at the weekend.

Lucas is keen to make an impact and believes he will progress as a player if he continues to work hard.

He told the club's official website: "I have had some bad times, especially the last time I started at Anfield against Fulham but you just have to keep your head up and keep working hard.

"I'm trying to improve in every game and hopefully I can show my quality every time I play."

Focus

The Reds remain top of the Premier League table but they have drawn their last three home games and were also held at Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Lucas believes it is important to return to winning ways against Bolton on Boxing Day.

He said: "We must now focus on our next game and try to get the three points at Anfield.

"We have had three draws in a row at home so it's important we win this game. We need to win our home games.

"Our supporters are always behind us and we want to send them home happy with a win.

"We are at the top of the league and we have to keep going. We have to be confident and just do our job.

"Everybody at this club wants to win the league and we will try our best to make that happen."
