Glen Johnson has vented his frustration at Liverpool's stalemate with Blackburn Rovers by branding Sam Allardyce's side's style of play as 'ugly'.

The Reds slipped further off the leading pack in the Premier League on Saturday as they could not find the back of the net in a 0-0 draw at Ewood Park.

Liverpool's French striker David Ngog wasted the best chance of a woeful match as he hit the bar from close range after being set up by Johnson.

The full-back, whose cross was arguably the only moment of brilliance, believed he and his team-mates deserved to win and is annoyed they failed to defeat Rovers.

Johnson said: "It's always difficult against Blackburn because they don't play much football and just launch the ball forward at every opportunity.

No luck

"They play an ugly game very well and play to their strengths. It makes life difficult for the opposition at times.

"We knew what to expect and we tried to get the ball down on the floor and play. The pitch wasn't great and we took a while to get used to it, but that's football and you have to live with things like this."

The England international added: "We deserved to win, especially after our second-half performance.

"I thought we'd scored when I crossed for David but the ball hit the worst bobble I've ever seen before his effort came back off the bar.

"Sometimes luck doesn't go for you but I thought we played the best football and did enough to win the game. We were pushing and pushing and it was so frustrating we couldn't get that goal our play deserved."

Sorry we didn't just roll over and let you win! we are fighting for survival and will do anything we can to stay in the premier league.sometimes that means long ball football. I can honestly say though the pitch has nothing to do with it. it's obviously frustrating when you are one time called a top 4 team and now you are a very average team. get over it!

I'm a Rovers fan and agree that we don't play the best football. Having said that, United, Arsenal and Chelsea have all managed to beat us. Liverpool need to get used to the fact that they are well off the pace in the Premier League and are in fact a fairly average side.

What an outrage, once again a liverpool player making excuses. anyone who was at the match would realise that blackburn were actually the only team who could pass teh ball forwards effectively, whereas all liverpool do (except gerrard) is pass it backwards. blackburn now have this reputation which is a load of rubbish just because of our manager. if anyone actually watched us, they would realise we can actually pass it about better than most teams. so i think johnson should think before he starts making excuses for his teams poor performance!

why would blackburn just play into liverpools hands and try and match them for quality??? there obviouisly not as good technically so they do need to find other ways to play against the bestter teams. liverpool just arnt good enough. us and chelsea would find a way past a team like blackburn. liverpool abviously cant. theyl be lucky to get top 4 this season. keep benitez in!!!!

I would have to disagree with Glen Johnson's comments about the game. I watched the game on Saturday and I would have to say that Blackburn played some good football especially compared to Liverpool, who looked poor in truth. Both teams created chances in the second half and I think the draw was a fair result. I am also amazed at the fact no - one has picked up on Steven Gerrard's dive, it was humiliating to watch him try and con the referee, something which he has done in the past, shocking!

Ross Holmes (Everton fan) says...

Maybe this big mouth should concentrate on why his own team can't play enough good football to win a game at present, rather than focusing on another team's tactics. Blackburn are entitled to play whatever style of football they want, and it clearly worked. If Liverpool aren't good enough to score against them they don't deserve to win the game. Simple.

What a load of rubbish! The ugliest football was played by Liverpool yesterday. Launching the ball forward? Is that the same as 'intelligent ball over the top' when used in conjunction with the top 4? The fact we didn't do that yesterday just shows how much Glen Johnson watched his own teams performance. Maybe he should go and watch the game again...

overrated and overpayed. football is football, each to there own. hypocritical really when the whole of there play centres on 1 or 2 decent players as shown by there league position.
