Liverpool stalwart Jamie Carragher insists only players who can handle pressure will ever shine at Anfield.

Carragher has seen plenty of big-name arrivals come and go during his impressive 15 seasons with the Merseyside giants.

The 31-year-old, who recently made his 600th appearance for the club, insists whether a player succeeds is down to his mental attributes.

Carragher insists anyone can impress when things are going well, however, it is when the chips are down that a player is judged.

Pressure

"Good players that have done well at lesser clubs have come here and not been able to deal with the pressure because they haven't had the character to deal with it when times are bad," explained Carragher.

"Liverpool is a great club to be at when everything is going well, but when we're struggling it's a very difficult place to be.

"I think that is why I am still here after 15 seasons, because I can take the flak. I think a lot of people think it's always rosy at Liverpool, but it's not. There are plenty of ups and downs.

"When the dust has settled after a rough patch and you see who is still here, they are the ones who are the strongest players. You've got to be able to take the knocks if you're going to play for Liverpool."
