Liverpool defender Daniel Agger is undergoing treatment for a bruised bone in his right knee after Sunday's physical encounter with Blackburn.

The injury-prone centre-back left Anfield on crutches following his side's 2-1 win and has since had scans to determine the extent of the damage.

Fortunately for Liverpool, who lost Martin Skrtel last week to a broken metatarsal, the results have only identified bruising and Agger will now have treatment at his club's training ground.

The bruising is described as 'severe', but is not as serious as any possible tear to knee ligaments.

"Daniel underwent a scan this morning which has shown severe bruising to the bone in his right knee," said a club spokesman on Monday.

"The knee is still very swollen and he will continue to receive treatment at Melwood this week."

Fellow defender Fabio Aurelio was forced off against Blackburn with a thigh injury which could keep him out of next Monday's Premier League trip to Wigan.
