Southend have completed the signing of Arsenal youngster Kerrea Gilbert.

The 20-year-old defender has agreed a six-month loan deal with the Roots Hall outfit.

With new signing Bakari Sagna adding to Arsene Wenger's options at full back, Gilbert has again been allowed to get first-team experience elsewhere.

"At Arsenal I'm not going to get the chance to really play this season because they have signed another right-back, so hopefully I can kick on at Southend and play a lot of first-team games to take the club where they want to be," he told the club's official website.

"I played against them twice last season and in the second game they won at Ninian Park, so it was an easy choice for me."

Gilbert spent all of last season on loan at Championship side Cardiff and played nearly 30 games for The Bluebirds.
