Arsene Wenger is confident there will be a positive outcome to his contract negotiations.

There has been some speculation about Wenger's future at Arsenal but he does not want the matter to be unsettling for his players on the eve of the new season.

The Frenchman's current deal expires next summer and the Arsenal board are keen for him to put pen-to-paper on a new deal as soon as possible.

Wenger said: "I do not want to be unsettling. I am highly committed to the club, I have shown that many, many times in my life and I don't think anybody can question that.

"We are talking and usually when we talk, there is always a positive outcome.

At the moment nothing is done, but hopefully soon."

Crazy markets

Wenger has made two major signings this summer in Eduardo da Silva and Bakari Sagna, but has plenty of money to spend following the departures of Thierry Henry and Freddie Ljungberg.

However, he does not plan to venture back into the transfer market this summer.

"We have funds available to buy if I want to," Wenger explained. "I always look at my team and what we need to be strong and I feel we are strong, I don't feel we need more.

"But we are always listening. If something comes up we have the funds to do it, but we don't have a special need.

"What is happening at the moment is that 80 per cent of the money spent in the world is being spent in England.

"I don't go into some crazy markets, but they might go down again."
