Jens Lehmann has suffered an elbow injury and will not play for Germany against Romania this week.

Lehmann sustained the problem during his country's 2-0 victory over Wales on Saturday, and will make way for Timo Hildebrand in Wednesday's friendly.

The Euro 2008 qualifier against Wales was Lehmann's first game for several weeks, as he has been sidelined with Achilles trouble since Arsenal's 1-1 draw with Blackburn.

It remains to be seen whether he will be fit enough to be considered for Arsenal's Premier League clash against Tottenham this weekend.

Germany coach Joachim Low said: "Jens had a problem before the game, and even more so afterwards so he can rest for the next two or three days.

"I have also got to think about the players who will be playing regularly in midweek in September and October, those in the UEFA Champions League and Uefa Cup.

"They will also be rested, or given only 45 minutes."

Low has confirmed that Lukas Podolski and Patrick Helmes will lead the attack for Germany against Romania.
