Wenger: Confident

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is confident his young side can mount a serious assault on this season's UEFA Champions League.

The Gunners get their Champions League campaign underway on Wednesday with a home clash with Spanish side Sevilla.

Wenger, who saw his Arsenal side go top of the Premier League on Saturday, admits it is his dream to win Europe's top prize after going so close in 2006

History

"Winning the Champions League is something I want to add to Arsenal's history," said Wenger.

"We have the potential to do well, but we have a big test on Wednesday - Sevilla are one of the best four or five teams in Europe and they can beat anybody.

"I would not have signed a new contract if I didn't feel we had the potential to win the Champions League.

"I built this team and it is a very good team - I have great confidence and belief in them.

"Last year was a big disappointment and I don't want that to happen again.

"We have been drawn against difficult opponents straight away, but I feel we can go very close.

"My feeling has always been that we can win the Champions League and this season is no different.

"We reached the final two seasons ago without losing a game with this squad, minus Thierry Henry. Now everyone here is more mature.

"I hope we can meet Thierry and Barcelona in the semi-final but first I am concentrating on the group stages."
