Arsene Wenger felt Arsenal's victory over Steaua Bucharest showed there was a 'special' resolve within his side.

The Gunners struggled to break down their Romanian opponents and even had to survive one or two anxious moments at the back.

Victoras Iacob missed a glorious opportunity for Steaua when he curled wide with just Manuel Almunia to beat, and minutes later Robin van Persie scored the winning goal for Arsenal.

"Steaua defended very well and we couldn't find the openings, so we had to show patience," said Wenger.

"Patience is linked with maturity and we were conscious of that at half-time.

"The turning point was maybe when they were clean through and missed because I thought we were in control from then."

Technology

Steaua goalkeeper Robinson Zapata almost carried the ball over the goalline as he scrambled back to catch Gael Clichy's deflected cross.

Television replays were inconclusive but Wenger remains an advocate for the introduction of technology.

"It is unbelievable, but I hope it will change and not only for goals," he said.

"I am a supporter of the video system and I hope it will change soon."

Arsenal have now won their last nine games in all competitions and Wenger is happy with how his side is progressing.

He explained: "It's not just that we are winning the games, it also says a lot about the resolve of the team.

"The focus they had today shows there is something special in the team."
