Franz Beckenbauer has advised Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann not to continue his war of words with Arsene Wenger.

The Germany legend's concern follows Lehmann's recent outburst in which he warned The Gunners boss not to 'humiliate' him for much longer.

Lehmann's gripe centres around his current inability to wrestle the No.1 jersey off the in-form Manuel Almunia.

And Beckenbauer is concerned that should the 37-year-old not demonstrate some patience, he could find himself heading out of the club in January.

Confrontation

"Lehmann must not make the mistake and start a confrontation with Wenger because he will not win it," Beckenbauer told Premiere TV.

"Wenger is a fair coach who does not immediately take out a player when he has a bad day. Jens Lehmann needs to be patient until he gets his chance, but he will get it.

"Lehmann will be playing for a different club by winter because Wenger will not accept that [a confrontation]."
