Arsenal's Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed that he turned down an offer from Manchester United, and insists he has no regrets after deciding to stay in North London.

The 23-year-old has explained that United made an approach for him over the summer, and admits he contemplated a move to The Red Devils.

However, after talks with Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger the striker decided to stay, and went on to sign a new four-year contract.

"When I got that approach from United, I was like 'okay, it's a good team, one of the biggest teams in the world - why not?" he told The Sun.

Flattered

"It was very flattering for me and gave me confidence that I am a good footballer because, if a team like Manchester want to get me, it proves I'm doing things right.

"But don't forget I am already at a massive club and we have a fantastic team.

"I had a good discussion with the boss Arsene Wenger, we finally sorted everything out and I was very happy.

"The boss gave me confidence and the guarantee I will play."

Wenger's men host United on Saturday, live on Sky Sports 1, and after netting the winner in the side's meeting at Old Trafford last season, the towering forward has set his sights on repeating the feat.

Family

"I don't know if what prompted United's interest was my winner at Old Trafford. But I hope to do that again on Saturday," he added.

"I did the right thing in signing a new deal with Arsenal - a four-year contract.

"I am just like a baby boy who was born in this club.

"It's a family team, everyone loves me - and the fans, the players, the boss - we are all like brothers."
