Germany goalkeeper Jens Lehmann has admitted he may leave Arsenal in the January transfer window in order to save his international career.

Lehmann is the current Germany No.1, but he has lost his place in the Gunners first-team to Manuel Almunia.

The 38-year-old has now hinted he may consider leaving Emirates Stadium in order to secure first-team football as he bids to maintain his place in the Germany side for Euro 2008.

Lehmann is set for talks with Germany coach Joachim Low at Christmas and the shot-stopper says he will then make a decision on his future.

Option

"Given what the Germany coach says, I will have to see how things are in December," Lehmann told Kicker magazine.

"I definitely want to play at Euro 2008. Playing there has always been my aim."

"The Bundesliga is always attractive and is an option, and maybe the German second division is too."

Lehmann, though, insists he has not given up hope of regaining his place in Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger's first XI.

Motivation

"The situation is as it is. It is only important what the manager decides and I am using this phase to train intensively every day," Lehmann added.

"The manager knows I am highly motivated. I would like to play again soon and expect that I will do.

"I would be very surprised if that was not the case."
