Arsene Wenger says Cesc Fabregas is a major doubt for Saturday's clash against Aston Villa.

The 20-year-old midfielder picked up a hamstring injury during Tuesday's 3-1 loss to Sevilla, and was forced to limp off with the problem after 56 minutes.

Wenger believes there is a still a possibility that Fabregas may feature at Villa Park, however admits that a 10-day absence is a more realistic estimate.

Worst case scenario

"I don't know how long it will be for Cesc. We hope it will be very, very, very short maybe he'll even be OK for Saturday," he told the club's official website.

"But the medical staff are not optimistic about that. The worst case for him realistically is 10 days."

The French tactician also gave updates on his other injury victims, revealing that Alexander Hleb and Gael Clichy only have a slight chance of making returns against Villa.

Van Persie setback

"We have a slight chance to get Gael Clichy and Alexander Hleb back. Mathieu Flamini will be available," Wenger continued.

Striker Robin van Persie was also expected to make his comeback from a long-term knee injury, but Wenger confirmed that he will be unavailable.

"Van Persie I still think will be out for two to three weeks," he added.
