Adebayor: Happy to prove doubters wrong
Emmanuel Adebayor has urged his Arsenal team-mates to stay focused and not get carried away by talk of going through the season unbeaten.
The Gunners have not lost in their opening 14 Premier League games this term and their sparkling football has led to suggestions that they could emulate Arsene Wenger's 'invincibles' of 2003/4.
Adebayor is not thinking that far ahead but is confident that Arsenal will be able to maintain their title challenge.
Many questioned whether Arsenal would be able to compete with the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool following Thierry Henry's departure, and Adebayor is happy to have proved the doubters wrong.
"I know people are starting to say already that we can go unbeaten but I know the most important thing is keep on doing a good job and keep on playing our football," he said.
"Three or four months ago there were people saying 'we are not sure Arsenal are going to finish in the top four', and now they are mentioning we could go unbeaten for the season.
"The most important thing is to focus on our job. We don't care what people are saying. It is good that people are talking good things about the club and we are very happy about those things.
"But the crucial thing is to keep our head on our shoulders, keep on doing a good job, keep on performing like we are now and at the end of the season we can talk about whether we finish unbeaten or not."
Adebayor feels the difference between this season and last is that Arsenal now have the resilience to complement their ability.
"We have the team. We know we have good players and we know a lot of times we have to fight to win a game," he said.
"Every single game is a big test. We know we are going to play another important game on Wednesday at Newcastle and we are going to prepare for that and try to win again. We are ready for the test."
Adebayor also feels Arsenal have the strength in depth to cope without Alexander Hleb and Cesc Fabregas, who are both currently sidelined.
"Am I worried about our strength in depth. No, no, no. We have a lot of good players, a lot of talented players in the squad and we all trust each other.
"Mathieu Flamini came in against Villa and did a good job and scored. He is a very good footballer as well. Every player in the squad can do well when they are required."
