Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger expects Alexander Hleb to miss Wednesday's clash with Newcastle.

Hleb is struggling with an Achilles injury he picked up against Aston Villa at the weekend.

The classy midfielder was forced to limp off against Villa after a heavy challenge from John Carew.

Hleb had only recovered from a hamstring injury to face Villa and Wenger admitted the Belarus international had suffered a recurrence of the hamstring problem.

"He [Hleb] had a kick on his Achilles. He had a hamstring problem before but we decided to play him," Wenger told the club's official website.

"He had a little recurrence and I am not sure he will be available for Newcastle on Wednesday night."

Hleb joins Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie and Abou Diaby in the treatment room and Wenger is hoping his players will return to fitness ahead of the forthcoming busy festive period.

"My worry at the moment is that we lose players in every game. I hope we'll get them back soon," added Wenger.
