Flamini: Talks ongoing

Arsene Wenger remains hopeful that Mathieu Flamini will agree a new contract at Arsenal.

The French midfielder's current deal expires at the end of the season and he is free to talk to other clubs.

Flamini appeared close to leaving Emirates Stadium last summer, with then-Birmingham boss Steve Bruce keen on a swoop.

But the former Marseille youngster has grasped a second chance in North London and formed a profitable partnership with Cesc Fabregas in the centre of midfield this season.

Not concerned

He revealed before Christmas that talks regarding an extension had taken place, although he was in no rush to come to an agreement.

Gunners boss Wenger appears to be of a similar mindset and is optimistic that Flamini will decide to stay with the club.

"Mathieu is free to talk, but the talks [with Arsenal] are ongoing," Wenger told the club's official website.

"I am hopeful on it. I am not concerned."
