Wenger: Double dream
Arsene Wenger believes his Arsenal side can win the UEFA Champions League and the Premier League this season.
The Gunners progressed to the quarter-finals of the Champions League with a 2-0 victory over Milan on Tuesday, while they also lead the Premier League by one point.
Wenger accepts it will be a hugely difficult for Arsenal to win both competitions, but feels the manner of their win in Italy can provide the perfect springboard for the rest of the campaign.
He told Sky Sports News: "I believe we can do it. We know the competition will be very tough and maybe, of both competitions, the toughest can come domestically.
"I said the other day I was convinced there was more to come from this team.
"Games like that strengthen your belief and your confidence.
"You can use that confidence to become even better and that is what I want my team to do."
Wenger is also hoping to sort out a new deal for Mathieu Flamini as quickly as possible.
The midfielder expressed his happiness with life at Arsenal following the game against Milan, but he is out of contract at the end of the season and there has been speculation of a move away from Emirates Stadium.
The Frenchman earned rave reviews for his performance in midweek and has impressed Wenger with his consistent displays all season.
The Arsenal manager is now looking to tie Flamini to a contract extension in the near future.
"At the moment he wants to stay and I want him to stay, and that is a good start," said Wenger.
"We want to find an agreement with his representative and we hope to achieve that quite quickly."
Flamini's partnership with Cesc Fabregas has been a major part of Arsenal's success this season and Wenger was full of praise for the way the two combined against Milan.
He said: "They are a good tandem because they complement each other very well and have a good understanding.
"But I believe the whole midfield worked very well for the team and the defence came out on top as well against their strikers.
"We could stop Kaka, (Alexandre) Pato, and (Filippo) Inzaghi from getting the ball because the midfield worked very hard together."
