Gallas and Adebayor: Clichy backing
Arsenal full-back Gael Clichy has urged supporters to get behind under-fire duo William Gallas and Emmanuel Adebayor.
Captain Gallas has come in for criticism following his infamous demonstration at Birmingham City last season as the club slumped to a late 2-2 draw.
Reports had claimed manager Arsene Wenger could relieve Gallas of his role as skipper; however the France centre-back has continued to wear the armband this campaign.
Clichy believes Gallas learned a great deal from his debut term as captain, and insists the defender has the full backing of his team-mates.
"I think he showed he is a great player. William is the captain so you have to look for someone to blame," he said in the Daily Star.
"Unfortunately it is him but I don't think the players think that is right.
"We don't blame him for everything. Everyone makes mistakes. Everyone is behind him and it will remain like this.
"The main objective is to win something this year."
Togo striker Adebayor, meanwhile, recently signed a new deal at Emirates Stadium following a summer of speculation linking him with a move to the likes of AC Milan and Barcelona.
Clichy concedes the uncertainty surrounding Adebayor's future was not ideal preparation for the new season, but is convinced the powerful forward will again win over the Gunners faithful.
He added: "I think the big thing is to feel that you are wanted by your club, your manager, your team-mates and the fans.
"It was a big disappointment for the fans to see what happened during the summer.
"Ade is a big, big player and last year he showed he has the quality to be one of the best in Europe.
"So we just have to be behind him. It is difficult, of course, for the fans, but I am sure if he starts scoring goals and by December is on 15 or 20, then everything will be fine."
