Emmanuel Adebayor believes keeping Robin van Persie fit could be the key to Arsenal's chances of success this season.

The strike duo bagged a brace each as they bounced back from last weekend's shock defeat to Hull with a 4-0 thumping of Porto in the Champions League.

Adebayor and Van Persie were unable to develop a strike partnership last season due to the Dutchman's injury problems, but the Togo ace feels the pair have a telepathic understanding when they play together.

"We enjoy playing together - Robin's a very good player," Adebayor told The Sun.

"In our heads we have the same ambition, which is to help this team win something.

Telepathic

"We're trying for a telepathic understanding and against Porto we've shown we can do something.

"Hopefully, as we go on we will get to know each other better and learn how each other plays.

"If Robin is fit for the whole season we have a chance to do something special, that's for sure.

"We talk off the pitch about the way we play.

"You must discuss what you have done well and what you have done badly."
