Veloso: Staying put

Sporting Lisbon star Miguel Veloso has ruled out making a switch to the Premier League for at least another five years.

The Portugal international, 22, has been linked with a transfer to England's top flight, with Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all reportedly keen to land his services.

The £16million-rated midfielder has revealed he failed to agree a deal to join a Premier League club over the summer and now sees his long-term future at Sporting.

Veloso told Portuguese reporters during international duty: "I signed a contract until 2013 and I would like to fulfil it until the end.

"Any player or human being would wish to evolve and to make the jump - anyone who says otherwise is lying.

"I know that I am at a great club and that I must be thankful to Sporting. It's true that I had a chance to escape to England in the summer but we could not close a deal.

"From now I will always give my everything to Sporting."
