William Gallas admits he has been his own biggest critic during his time at Arsenal.

The Frenchman has looked far from his best this term and has faced criticism for lacklustre showings in the past.

A recent spell on the sidelines recovering from a thigh problem has given him time to reflect on his career at Emirates Stadium, and he accepts things could have gone better.

However, the centre-half has complete faith in his ability to rediscover top form, helping him to silence those who continue to question his desire and commitment.

"As for my performances with Arsenal, yes it is true I have been in trouble, but I do not think it has been that way for every game," Gallas said.

"Sometimes it is not easy because if you have had a bad game, the next match you want to lift the level up as high as you can.

"I am the first man to judge myself when I have had a bad game.

Pressure

"I always try to do my best and sometimes it doesn't work, but the most important thing is the squad and the club.

"If my performances are so-so and Arsenal win the Premier League, I think everybody will be happy."

Gallas added: "I am 31-years-old now, so I do not mind what is written about me.

"I know myself when I have played badly or not.

"It is a big story when I don't play well, but I have learned that is part of being the captain.

"There is a lot of pressure on your shoulders when you are a captain, but it is a good experience for me.

"When we lose or when we draw straight away people look at the captain, and to be honest that is something that surprised me when I first took the job. But I'm used to it now and I don't mind."
